Something to chew on...

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

Halloween Evangelism

Hello all :)

Halloween Evangelism is fast approaching and it's time to GET READY
If you don't know already, Halloween is on Saturday, 10/31.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
This year, we are going to set up a table, open up the main entrance doors of the church, and share the Gospel by passing out tracts and candy.

We will also be showing a short video especially made for this Halloween that will be looping the entire time--- which also shares the Gospel message.

For those of you who weren't here last year, we were able to witness and share the Gospel with hundreds of people in the Sunnyside community. Almost everyone gladly accepted tracts, Gospel of John books, One Heartbeat Away, and of course, the candy.

With so many children, teens, and parents wandering the streets celebrating Halloween, we want to take this opportunity to witness and share the TRUTH to the lost and also to backsliding Christians. Our hope is that God will use us to plant seeds of TRUTH in their hearts so that they may come to know God and be SAVED.

And if any of you guys are nervous about sharing the Gospel--- don't be.
We will be trained and fully equipped this Sunday, 10/25
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In order to prepare for this night, we are going to do a 6 day prayer & fasting for the Halloween Evangelism.

Starts 10/24-10/30, THIS Saturday to the FRIDAY before Halloween.
* Please do NOT fast on the DAY of Halloween. We need you well fed and alert.

You can fast whole days or fast meals. It's up to you.
(You can fast physical FOOD--- but you can even fast something you just like a lot, like AIM or facebook)

Let Richard Teacher and I know what days you are going to fast so that we can pray for one another.

Alritey young people, let's get ready!

VICTORIOUS IN CHRIST,
Jane Teacher

Bible Reading for 9/27

Bible Study: Genesis 21-22
Weekly Bible Reading: Psalm 1-2

Hola YG :)

Are you guys having fun reading Psalm 1 & 2?

I remember hearing some of you guys say it was hard to understand, so I'm putting another "easier" version of Psalm 1 & 2 here in NLT version, not NIV. Try reading it again and see if it helps you understand--- if not, ask us questions and let us know what you're thinking :)

Psalm 1

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

4 But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.
6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 2

1 Why are the nations so angry?
Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
2 The kings of the earth prepare for battle;
the rulers plot together
against the Lord
and against his anointed one.
3 “Let us break their chains,” they cry,
“and free ourselves from slavery to God.”

4 But the one who rules in heaven laughs.
The Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then in anger he rebukes them,
terrifying them with his fierce fury.
6 For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne
in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”

7 The king proclaims the Lord’s decree:
“The Lord said to me, ‘You are my son.
Today I have become your Father.
8 Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance,
the whole earth as your possession.
9 You will break them with an iron rod
and smash them like clay pots.’”

10 Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry,
and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities—
for his anger flares up in an instant.
But what joy for all who take refuge in him!

Question:

1. In Psalm 1, it says the blessed person's "delight is in the law of the LORD" (v2) To delight in something means to find great pleasure, satisfaction, and joy in. What would you do to delight in God’s law?

2. According to Psalm 2:11-12, what are we instructed to do as children of God?

Bible Reading for 9/27

Sunday Bible Study: Genesis 21-22
Weekly Bible Reading: Isaiah 1-6

Hey guys :)

I just wanted to give you guys a little introduction before reading the book of Isaiah.
Remember how the books of the Bible are divided into different sections?

For example, this is how the Old Testament (39 books) are divided up:

If you look at the chart, you can find that Isaiah is the FIRST book of the Major Prophets. (Prophets are people chosen to speak for God and to guide the people of Israel.) Isaiah was a prophet to the nations of Judah and Jerusalem. Most of the people there were rebellious, forgot about God (as usual) and became idol worshipers--- so Isaiah tells the people what condition they're in, and how they desperately need salvation. (By the way, Isaiah's name means “salvation of the Lord”! --- how fitting ^_^)

Anyway, even though Isaiah is speaking to a rebellious nation with warnings of doom--- God ALWAYS gives promises of HOPE too--- IF they repent and turn from their evil ways.

Read Isaiah 1:9-20:
1. What two cities does Isaiah compare Judah and Jerusalem?
How were they like _____ & _____?
* Hint: We learned about them in Gen. 19 ;)

2.
The Lord says "If you are _____ & _____, you will eat the best from the land; but if you _____ & ______, you will be devoured by the sword." (v. 19-20)
What do you think that means?
